Job Description

This position is responsible planning, directing and implementing the Company’s health, safety and environmental processes to ensure a safe, healthy and incident-free work environment either in the corporate office or field offices.

Essential functions

  • Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with Company, National and International rules and regulations in the corporate office or field locations.
  • Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and other materials.
  • Assist corporate and/or global HSE Department in the development of HSE bulletins, policy, procedures and manuals.
  • Manage regulatory compliance and HSE measures required for the Company’s operations.
  • Responsible for the Incident Management Program.
  • Provide information, signs, posters, barriers and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Inspect and/or schedule audits of the Company’s facilities, rigs and operational support to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
  • Track audits, analyze root causes, recommend process improvements and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Conduct incident investigations and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.
  • Oversee the investigations into workplace injuries, accidents or occupational illnesses to determine cause and corrective actions.
  • Support development of budget for Corporate HSE and monitor budget to ensure cost effective operation.
  • Prepare and arrange safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industry conferences and exhibitions.
  • Ensure updated safety files and training database.
  • Manage HSE technical and administrative staff to include, but not limited to, evaluating performance and providing recommendations for improvement, coaching/counselling on disciplinary issues, providing guidance and direction, etc.
  • Monitor contractor HSE performance.
  • Represent the organization in community or industry HSE groups and programs.
  • Develop tender support documentation for marketing activities.
  • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Ensure that personal behaviors and work practices are in line with Company safety standards.
  • Responsible for safety of self and others in the vicinity to include, but not limited to, employees, vendors and guests.
  • Provide visible leadership engagement, be aware of housekeeping and take additional safety precautions to ensure no one is put at risk.
  • Do not take short cuts or unnecessary risks and actively work with others to ensure they take due care and do not put themselves or others at risk.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and appropriately investigated in accordance with Company procedure.
  • As needed, seek advice from HSE representative.

Qualifications

Necessary qualifications, skills and abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Should have at least 10 years of work experience experience in regulatory compliance, HSE management or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant military experience.
  • Must have direct experience in supervising others.
  • Must have and maintain current national and/or international Safety Professional certifications to include OHST, ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.
  • Must possess direct knowledge of land and offshore drilling operations and API Codes for drilling operations.
  • Must understand, interpret and implement applicable regulations within regulatory jurisdiction.
  • Must possess an in-depth understanding of the complexities of worldwide drilling operations, work cultures and the inherent risks associated with drilling operations.
  • Work experience with an international drilling contractor is preferred.
  • Must have leadership experience in root cause analysis.
  • Experience with TapRoot® is preferred.
  • OHSAS 18000 Auditor or similar is a plus.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure in ambiguous and complex situations.
  • Ability to work independently with multiple people at many levels and work as part of a team.
  • Professional relationship and interpersonal skills with strong customer service attitude.
  • Excellent time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple requests from various avenues, and the ability to change direction in response to fluctuating circumstances.
  • Must be able to problem solve.
  • Must be a self-motivator and work without close supervision.
  • Must be able to prioritize jobs and work under tight time constraints.
  • Must have excellent computer skills to include all MS Office products.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to effectively communicate with staff, management, customers and vendors. Must be proficient in English and being multi-lingual is preferred.
